The grounds Behaviour Interactive relies on

Behaviour Interactive divides its game bans into temporary and permanent ones. According to its Game Bans article (checked on 26 October 2026), temporary bans follow harassment and communications abuse, griefing such as holding the game hostage, the exploitation of bugs, botting and lag switching. Permanent bans follow hacked in-game exclusives or legacy cosmetics, cheated progress or a modified save file, serious threats, and third-party software that gives an unfair advantage; Behaviour adds that it does not ban for the use of communication apps. On PC, the game runs with Easy Anti-Cheat, whose detections can lead to an automated ban.

Temporary bans escalate, as Behaviour states, from 48 hours to one week, one month and finally a permanent ban, and an egregious offence may skip one or more steps. Disconnections are handled separately by an automatic penalty that locks matchmaking for a time. Thus, the offence named in the ban notification decides the case. A cheating ban turns on the software that ran on the PC, a conduct ban on the match and chat in question, and a cosmetics ban on the origin of the items.

Where the appeal goes

Only permanent game bans can be appealed, as Behaviour's note on ban appeals lists temporary bans of any kind, including disconnection penalties, as not open to appeal and adds that support agents cannot overturn them. For a permanent ban, the player opens a ticket with Behaviour's player support and chooses "ban appeal" from the list of queries; the Player Cloud ID that the form may ask for appears at the bottom of the ban message. The store or console the game was bought on plays no part in this, since the ban is set by Behaviour on the Dead by Daylight account.

It shall be noted that the same note refers automated Easy Anti-Cheat bans to Easy Anti-Cheat itself. Easy Anti-Cheat's appeal form, in turn, asks for the reference ID of the ban and directs players of games other than Fortnite to that game's support channel first. Hence, the ticket with Behaviour is the starting point, and a reference ID shown with the ban belongs in it.

What the appeal should contain

A ban appeal to Behaviour should state the Player Cloud ID, the platform and account name, the date of the ban and the exact offence named in the notification. Thereafter, it should set out what happened before the ban, which for a cheating ban means the programs that ran on the PC at the time, since Behaviour bans software that gives an unfair advantage but not communication apps. For a cosmetics ban, it means the origin of each item, e.g. an official code or giveaway, and for a save-file ban, whether anyone else had access to the account.

Accuracy matters more than length. Behaviour's game rules treat false support tickets and lying to support agents as abuse of support services, which can lead to the suspension of support and up to a permanent ban of the game account. Where the player did break a rule, the appeal should say so plainly rather than deny it.

After the decision

Behaviour applies what it calls a zero-tolerance policy: a ban found to be legitimate is not lifted, and additional support tickets do not change the outcome of an appeal. Behaviour also advises against several tickets on the same issue, as they delay processing. A second request, therefore, makes sense only where new facts appear, and it should refer to the original ticket.

Ban evasion carries its own risk. According to Behaviour, players with several permanent bans may lose access to their other accounts if offences continue, on any platform, and any previous permanent ban, including one on a previous account, makes every future offence a permanent ban. Accordingly, this guide does not describe ways around a ban.

Current enforcement

The Dead by Daylight appeal page sets out the steps in short form, and the DBD ban-wave monitor records whether Behaviour is currently running a wider enforcement wave.

Frequently asked questions

Can a Dead by Daylight ban be appealed?

Only a permanent game ban can be appealed, through a ticket with Behaviour's player support under "ban appeal". Temporary bans and disconnection penalties cannot be appealed and end when the time shown in the notification has passed.

How long does a DBD ban appeal take?

Behaviour does not give an exact timetable and states that it answers tickets as soon as it can. Several tickets on the same issue delay the answer, so the status is best followed in the existing ticket.

Does a DBD ban carry over to other accounts or platforms?

The ban is set by Behaviour on the Dead by Daylight account, not by the store. Behaviour states that the structure of its bans applies on any platform, that repeat offenders may lose access to their other accounts, and that a previous permanent ban makes every later offence a permanent one.
