The grounds Epic Games relies on

Epic Games bans players from Fortnite for conduct that breaches the Community Rules, the Epic Games Terms of Service or the rules of a tournament, as its help page on Fortnite bans (checked on 26 October 2026) explains. The Community Rules prohibit, inter alia, cheating and the exploitation of bugs and glitches, bullying and harassment, scams including the buying or selling of accounts, and the sharing of other people's personal information. On PC, Epic requires Easy Anti-Cheat to play Fortnite; the software installed on the device is, therefore, arguably the central fact in a cheating case.

The type of sanction matters as much as the ground. Epic's Safety Center distinguishes, first, warnings; second, social bans that remove voice and text chat; third, matchmaking bans that block every experience in Fortnite; and fourth, product bans limited to one game or service. The fifth and gravest measure, the account ban, disables the Epic account together with the rights to all games, items and balances on it. According to Epic, temporary bans in Fortnite can last up to 365 days, whereas permanent bans are indefinite. The distinction, therefore, matters beyond Fortnite: according to Epic's help page, a player banned from Fortnite can still play other games on the Epic Games Store, while an account ban reaches the whole Epic account.

Where the appeal goes

Epic handles appeals in the Sanctions and Appeals Portal of its Safety Center, to which the player signs in with the Epic account that received the sanction. The portal requires the Sanction ID from the notification email; where no email arrived, Epic states for communication bans that the details appear in Fortnite at the next sign-in. It shall be noted that Epic Games Player Support cannot review or appeal bans on the player's behalf, so that a support ticket does not replace the portal.

Epic allows one appeal per eligible sanction, and the appeal remains open throughout the duration of the sanction unless the law requires a longer period. Not every sanction is eligible, and a sanction applied after the modification of an earlier one cannot be appealed. Accordingly, the single appeal has to be complete when it is submitted.

What the appeal should contain

According to Epic, a human moderator reviews each appeal and, in some cases, asks the player for additional information. The appeal should therefore state the Epic display name, the Sanction ID, the type and duration of the sanction and the rule cited in the email, and thereafter set out in chronological order what happened in the match, chat or transaction concerned.

The evidence follows the ground. For a cheating ban, the appeal should describe the software installed on the PC at the time, any other person who used the device or the account and, where the account was taken over, the dates of password resets and security emails. For a conduct ban, the exact message and its context carry the argument, whereas a tournament ban turns on the specific rule of the competition. Where the player did break the rule, an honest account of the circumstances arguably serves the appeal better than a denial, since the moderator may also modify a sanction instead of only upholding or lifting it.

After the decision

Epic notifies the outcome by email and in the portal: the sanction is upheld if it was appropriately applied, lifted if it was inaccurately applied, or modified if a more suitable sanction fits the violation. A second appeal against the same sanction is not possible under Epic's rules. However, for some Epic services, users in the European Union can refer unresolved disputes to a certified out-of-court dispute settlement body listed by the European Commission.

Playing on with another account during a ban may itself breach Epic's terms, and Epic states that it may take action against all accounts of a player who holds several. Hence, this guide does not describe ways around a ban.

Current enforcement

In August 2026, Game Ban Appeal prepared an appeal for a Fortnite account; the decision on the ban remained with Epic Games. Whether Epic is currently running a wider enforcement wave is recorded on the ban-wave monitor, and the Fortnite appeal page sets out the steps in short form.

Frequently asked questions

Can a Fortnite ban be appealed?

Yes, if the sanction is eligible. The appeal is filed once per sanction in Epic's Sanctions and Appeals Portal with the Sanction ID from the notification email, and Epic Games Player Support cannot file it on the player's behalf.

Is a Fortnite ban permanent?

Not always. Epic states that temporary bans can last up to 365 days and that permanent bans in Fortnite are indefinite; the notification email names the type of ban and its duration.

Does a Fortnite ban affect other Epic games?

According to Epic, a player banned from Fortnite can still play other games on the Epic Games Store. An account ban, by contrast, disables the Epic account and removes the rights to all games and items on it.
