The grounds BattlEye and server admins rely on
DayZ is a Bohemia Interactive game protected by BattlEye, an anti-cheat that issues global bans when it detects cheats. Bohemia's DayZ support (checked on 26 October 2026) states that the banning system is administered by BattlEye and that Bohemia has no involvement in detecting cheats or administering bans. BattlEye, in turn, states that it bans only for actual cheats or components designed to bypass its protection. Nobody, according to BattlEye, is banned for non-hack programs such as overlays, for picking up hacked items or for being on a server at the same time as a cheater.
A ban from a single community server is a different matter. BattlEye's documentation gives server admins commands to ban a player's BattlEye GUID from their server, either for a set number of minutes or permanently, and to remove such bans again. Thus, a server ban turns on that server's rules and its admins' decision, whereas a global ban follows a detection and applies on every server protected by BattlEye. BattlEye adds that cheating only on one's own private server still counts, because cheating is forbidden on all servers that use it.
Where the appeal goes
A global ban goes to BattlEye, not to Bohemia. BattlEye processes appeals only as a Ban appeals ticket submitted through the contact form on its website, as its support page sets out, and it states that sending the same appeal several times or to other addresses does not speed up the review. Bohemia's DayZ support, for its part, refers players with a global ban to BattlEye directly.
A ban on a community server goes to that server's admins, who keep their own ban list and can remove entries from it. It shall be noted that Bohemia's hosting rules for public-hive servers, in the version of August 2020, forbid operators to kick or ban players without just cause and provide that a breach may lead to the removal of the server.
What the appeal should contain
BattlEye requires the exact global ban ID shown in the ban message and the name of the game. Where no ID is shown, the game account identifier, e.g. the SteamID, takes its place, and without this information the appeal is not processed. The appeal should then state the date of the ban and list the programs, overlays and drivers that ran alongside the game, together with any that were removed afterwards.
BattlEye states that it does not reveal details or evidence of a ban and that it cannot lift a ban that resulted from the theft of a CD key or account. Thus, an appeal has prospects mainly where the player can show that no cheat ran at all, rather than that someone else ran it. For a community server ban, the appeal should name the server, the in-game name, the time and the rule the admins cited, and answer that rule with facts.
After the decision
BattlEye states that global bans for cheating are permanent and that no exceptions are made. A further request, therefore, makes sense only with new facts, for example evidence that the detection concerned a program that is not a cheat, while a refused server appeal remains within the discretion of that server's admins.
BattlEye also states that it gives no support on buying a new copy of the game or changing a CD key, and returning on another account after a ban may breach the applicable terms. Accordingly, this guide does not describe ways around a ban.
Current enforcement
The DayZ appeal page sets out the steps in short form, and reports of wider enforcement waves are recorded on the ban-wave monitor. In October 2026, Game Ban Appeal prepared an appeal for a DayZ account; the decision on the ban remained with BattlEye or the server's admins, whichever had imposed it.
Frequently asked questions
Can a DayZ BattlEye ban be appealed?
Yes, through the Ban appeals option of BattlEye's contact form, with the exact global ban ID and the name of the game. BattlEye states, however, that global bans for cheating are permanent and that no exceptions are made.
Does Bohemia Interactive handle DayZ global bans?
No. Bohemia's DayZ support states that BattlEye administers the banning system and that Bohemia has no involvement in detecting cheats or administering bans, so it refers players to BattlEye.
Who decides a ban on a DayZ community server?
The admins of that server, who can ban a player's BattlEye GUID from their server for a set time or permanently. The appeal therefore goes to them, through the channel the server names.
