The grounds Rockstar relies on

Rockstar's support article on the impact of suspensions and bans, last updated on 10 December 2024, names the conduct that triggers them. It lists modding in online games, the exploitation of game mechanics, money lobbies, account boosting and so-called account recovery, the promotion of glitches or online modding, the manipulation of protected game data and interference with other players' sessions. On PC, Rockstar also uses BattlEye, a kernel anti-cheat that, according to Rockstar's BattlEye FAQ, detects cheating software accessing GTA Online servers and attempts to manipulate protected game code.

Rockstar distinguishes two measures. Under its Online Suspension and Ban Policy, last updated on 24 February 2026, a suspension takes effect immediately, shows its expiration date on the Alert screen and may reset characters, progress, property and inventory. A ban, by contrast, has no expiration date and makes all access to the online services, including virtual currency, unavailable. Rockstar's impact article adds that some accounts are banned from all titles at once, without a prior suspension, for cheat development, attacks on Rockstar's services or other egregious violations.

Where the appeal goes

The Online Suspension and Ban Policy (checked on 26 October 2026) states that suspension and ban decisions may be appealed using a form. The short link it gives leads to the account appeals request on Rockstar Support, which is filed with the Rockstar Games account concerned. The same policy warns that baseless appeals, or appeals that themselves breach the Community Guidelines or Terms of Service, may be closed or lead to further action against the account.

FiveM, by contrast, is a separate platform. It runs under its own Creator Platform License Agreement, last updated on 10 September 2026, in which Rockstar accepts no obligation to resolve disputes between the users of a custom server and its server admins. Hence, a ban from a FiveM roleplay server is a matter for that server's staff, usually through its Discord or website, and the GTA Online appeal form is not the place for it.

What the appeal should contain

The request should give the Rockstar Games ID, the platform, the date and the wording of the Alert screen, and state whether the measure is a suspension with an expiration date or a ban without one. Thereafter, it should explain the session in question: who hosted it, whether money or items arrived from other players, and which programs ran on the PC at the time.

Modifications deserve a precise account, since modding in online games is the first ground Rockstar names. The appeal should state whether any modification was installed, when it was used and whether it was removed before the account went online. Rockstar's BattlEye FAQ notes in this regard that BattlEye only needs to run in online sessions and can be disabled for Story Mode. Where the account was taken over, the appeal should attach the password-reset emails and state when access was regained.

After the decision

A suspension ends on the date shown on the Alert screen, after which online play is possible again; following a suspension, however, any further violation may result in a permanent ban. A ban confirmed after review has no expiration date. A second request, therefore, makes sense only with new facts, as the policy expressly allows Rockstar to close baseless appeals.

Playing on through a second account during a suspension or after a ban may itself breach Rockstar's Terms of Service, and the policy states that measures may affect the gaming system as well as the account. Accordingly, this guide does not describe ways around a ban.

Current enforcement

The ban-wave monitor of Game Ban Appeal records whether Rockstar is currently running a wider enforcement wave, and the GTA Online appeal page sets out the steps of an appeal in short form.

Frequently asked questions

Can a GTA Online ban be appealed?

Yes. Rockstar's Online Suspension and Ban Policy states that suspension and ban decisions may be appealed through the account appeals form on Rockstar Support. Baseless appeals may be closed.

How long does a GTA Online suspension last?

Rockstar shows the expiration date of a suspension on the Alert screen when the account is removed from a session and again at each attempt to go online. A ban, by contrast, has no expiration date.

Are FiveM bans handled by Rockstar Support?

Not through the GTA Online appeal. FiveM runs under its own Creator Platform License Agreement, in which Rockstar accepts no obligation to resolve disputes between players and the admins of a custom server, so a server ban goes to that server's staff.
